Teacher Librarian - Hawthorne Elementary 1.0 FTE (1 year only)

Summary:
Under the supervision of the building principal, the teacher librarian works with both students and teachers to facilitate access to information in a wide variety of formats, instruct students and teachers how to acquire, evaluate and use information and the technology needed in this process, and introduces young people to literature and other resources to broaden their horizons. As a collaborator, change agent, and leader, the teacher librarian develops, promotes and implements a program that will help prepare students to be effective users of ideas and information, a lifelong skill.

Position Goals:

• To ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information
• To empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information
• To instill a love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information
• To collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction, and assess student learning and instructional effectiveness
• To provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and the school district, and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program
