Position Summary
Student Library Assistant essential responsibilities include providing basic circulation assistance and troubleshooting minor photocopier, printer, and scanner problems. The Student Library Assistant reports to Library Assistant III Circulation Manager. This position is open to Federal Work Study and Student Employment.
Essential Functions
Specific tasks include using the library’s software to provide circulation assistance to patrons. Duties also include shelving, shifting books, shelf reading, aiding in the de-accessioning of library materials, assisting with opening and/or closing procedures for both the media center and the library, and referring individuals to the appropriate librarian when needed. Other tasks include assisting patrons with basic computer software and hardware questions, maintaining printers, and troubleshooting minor equipment problems. Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
Ability to push book trucks weighing in excess of 100 lbs. Ability to bend and to reach shelves higher than 6 feet and must be able to lift at least 20lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Library operations/services, audiovisual equipment, and computer software.
