Summary of Job

This is a full-time (100%) position under supervision of the Director.  This staff member assists in implementing the goals and objectives of the library and its daily operation including programming and promotion of library services.  Hours include day, evening and weekend hours.  This position includes sick leave, holiday pay, Vacation and WRS and is eligible for Health Insurance benefits as outlined in the Library Employee Handbook and City Personnel Policy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Programming, Promotion and Outreach Services (50%)

  • Promotes programs and services in the library and throughout the community using print, radio, library website and social media platforms; manages library website content
  • Schedules and facilitates programming and maintains records of contracts, programs and attendance.
  • Oversees the volunteer program, including recruitment, task coordination and record-keeping.
  • Acts as liaison to the Friends of the Library group including scheduling and assisting with planning for the Friends sponsored programs.    
Circulation & Patron Services  (25%)
  • Performs routine tasks and patron services at the Circulation and Reference desk.
  • Maintains good relations with the public and other library staff; communicates effectively, courteously, and tactfully.
  • Learns and enforces library policies and guidelines
  • Provides assistance with computers, e-readers and other devices.
Administrative (10%)
  • Assists the Director in planning, policy development, budgeting and administration.
  • Participates in grant-seeking, writing and facilitating with other library staff.
  • Assists the Director, and other key staff, in staff training, evaluation and disciplinary matters.
Collection Maintenance (10%)
  • Oversees book selection and collection development
  • Collaborates with Director, library staff and system staff on organization and guidelines for collections.
Other  (5%)
  • Serves as Librarian-In-Charge as needed
  • Attends appropriate workshops and CE classes.
  • Participates on appropriate committees and planning groups.
  • Other duties as assigned or as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • A four-year college degree (An MLS or Masters in a related field is preferred).
  • Familiarity with routine aspects of public library service
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise others in the performance of their duties
  • Ability to work effectively in both individual and collaborative environments
  • Ability to use and troubleshoot technology.
Physical Demands of Position:
  • Standing, walking, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
  • Ability to move and/or lift materials up to 40 pounds.
