SCA conducts pre-employment and drug screening for all positions which includes a criminal background check, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications. A Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card is also required.
The Part-Time Library Assistant works closely with the Resource Center Supervisor to support the day-to-day operations and perform administrative tasks for the SCA library. The assistant helps manage materials, assist with student needs, and create an environment that fosters a love for reading and knowledge from preschool through high school levels. This part-time position works during the school-year only.
REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES
- Education & Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience & Skills:
- Experience working with children in a school or library setting is preferred.
- Previous experience in a K-12 Christian education setting preferred.
- Passionate about reading and has a love of children's literature.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with basic library systems, technology, and resource management tools.
- Detail-oriented with an ability to manage a range of objectives and to execute multiple objectives concurrently.
- Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
- Must be able to traverse school grounds and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist students in borrowing, renewing and returning library materials.
- Organize and maintain the library's book collection, including shelving and cataloging books and other resources.
- Assist with managing the library's collection by processing new books, repairing damaged books and deleting discarded books.
- Supervise students during library visits, helping maintain an organized and peaceful library environment.
- Help organize and promote library events such as book fairs in collaboration with teachers and administration.
- Input data entry for Follett and Accelerated Reader programs.
- Complete tasks to support the Accelerated Reader program including running reports for teachers and tracking student awards.
- Notify students and parents of overdue books.
- Order subscriptions, books, and library supplies.
- Order paper and toner for all copy machines and coordinate service when copy machines are not working properly.
- Stock teacher workrooms with paper and other supplies daily.
- Occasionally lead an elementary lesson.
- Help train teachers, teacher assistants, and volunteers how to use copy machines, laminator, binding machine, etc.
