20POSITION SUMMARY:
We are recruiting for two 20-hour per week positions within the Support Services Team of the Headquarters Library in Wausau.
The Library Page ensures the smooth and efficient operation of the library by maintaining the order and accessibility of library materials. This position involves a variety of tasks, including shelving, shelf reading, assisting patrons in locating materials, and supporting other library operations as needed. The Library Page contributes to a positive and welcoming environment for all library users. The work is performed under the direction of the Lead Library Assistant and/or the Library Support Services Manager.
The hours for these positions are 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., with occasional Saturday required. Additional hours may be necessary for meetings, workshops or to cover for other staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions and perform tasks requiring accuracy and attention to detail.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Accurately sort and shelve library materials according to established classification systems.
Perform regular shelf reading to ensure materials are in proper order, scanning, straightening, and verifying correct placement.
Retrieve requested materials from shelves based on generated reports.
Empty book return bins and process returned materials.
Check-in and process material as needed.
Provide courteous and helpful responses to basic patron inquiries.
Direct patrons to appropriate staff for more in-depth assistance.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance, with flexibility to work additional hours as needed.
Recommend improvements to processes and procedures to enhance library efficiency.
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with library staff and patrons.
Perform related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to learn and effectively utilize library computer software and basic computer hardware.
Demonstrate proficiency in sorting and organizing materials alphabetically, numerically, and according to the Dewey Decimal system.
Comprehensive understanding of the library's collection layout and organizational structure.
Ability to interpret and apply library policies, procedures, and standards to various situations, providing clear guidance to patrons and colleagues.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with patrons, staff, volunteers, and community members.
Ability to follow established procedures in an orderly and logical manner and adhere to prescribed routines.
Ability to perform basic mathematical operations accurately and efficiently, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as calculate percentages and work with decimals.
Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and handle a high volume of work effectively.
Demonstrate the commitment to providing exceptional customer service with empathy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
Ability to perform physical tasks requiring kneeling, crouching, bending, reaching, standing, and walking for extended periods.
Capability to perform repetitive motions, including but not limited to, shelving, shelf reading, and keyboard use.
Ability to climb and reach materials on high and low shelves.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to push and maneuver book carts weighing up to 75 pounds.
Ability to recognize and differentiate colors, shapes, and sounds relevant to library materials and tasks.
COMPENSATION:
Starting Salary: $13.60 per hour. These are part-time positions and are not eligible for any benefits.
