Description

Under supervision performs all circulation services and functions.  Shelves books and assists with programming. Assists patrons by checking library materials in and out, fills reserves, searches for overdue materials, orders assigned library sections, repairs audio-visual materials and books, shelves materials, provides simple technical assistance to the public, instructs public in various library products and services.  Evenings and weekends required.

Reports to Librarian / Circulation Supervisor, Library Assistant and or Shift Supervisor.

Examples of Duties

  • Use of Automated Information Library System; Collects Patron data as required
  • Use of Microsoft Office 
  • Checks Materials in and out- Doubles Check-in and out process to ensure accuracy.
  • Supports Reading and Chess Tutoring Programs or other specific lessons
  • Contacts patrons for reserves
  • Supports Library Programing 
  • Assists patrons by answering directional questions and directs them to appropriate service
  • Answers phone and directs calls/ questions to Reference Librarian
  • Issues library cards/ Promotes obtaining Library card at events
  • Assists patrons in the use of the Self-Check-out, Access of digital materials, Room Reservation, Print Station, photocopier, fax machine and mobile printing.
  • Collects, Registers, and processes periodicals as needed
  • Repairs damaged materials such as books and audio-visuals
  • Shelves and maintains order of books in assigned section (Shelf-Reading)
  • Assists patrons with technical, computer assistance-. 
  • Rotates tasks as needed for continuous service and workflow
  • Performs other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

High school attendance or completion required. 
Must be 15 years of age. 
Demonstrates ability to place materials in alphabetical and numerical/decimal order. 
Ability to work with a diverse work force.
