Performs a variety of library tasks requiring knowledge of library practices and procedures. This is a paraprofessional position, working under the general direction of a higher-level staff person or supervisor.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma/GED and college courses and/or related library experience totaling a minimum of (2) two years.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Good knowledge of general clerical methods and procedures.
Good knowledge of general library methods and procedures.
Knowledge of library materials.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software and familiarity with the Internet.
Ability to operate computers and handheld devices.
Ability to move heavy carts of books, shelve library materials, lift, stoop, and reach.
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Ability to communicate with tact and good judgment.
Ability to enforce library rules and regulations.
Ability to instruct others in the use of library facilities and services.
Ability to learn library systems and practices such as the classification system, machine-readable formats, and bibliographic data correction.
Ability to meet the public and assist them in locating materials of interest.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to keep records and files and compile routine statistical reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Work is performed inside in a library setting.
