The City of Irvine seeks multiple collaborative and customer service oriented individuals to take on the role of Part-time Library Assistant I in the development of Irvine’s new public library system. The Librarian Assistant will provide a wide variety of paraprofessional and technical library assistance to the public under direct or general supervision. Please note that this position will require occasional evening and weekend shifts.

Hourly Range:

Library Assistant I  - $28.20 - $44.37 Hourly

Your Impact
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist library customers in the use of library services and technology, and provides basic information and research assistance to the public.
  • Assist with collection maintenance as directed.
  • Assist with implementing general library programming and other library-related activities.
  • Assist with interpreting and applying library policies and procedures for customers.
  • Participate in community and outreach events as directed.
  • Assist with the supervision of facility rentals and enforce rules applicable to that reservation.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or one-year of experience working in a library as a Library Assistant or higher. College level coursework in Library Science or a related field is highly desirable.

  • Ability to apply City Library policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing to a diverse audience.
  • Basic knowledge of library information resources and technology.
