Summary:

The Assistant Library Director is responsible for overseeing and ensuring outstanding 
operations and customer services of all public-facing departments including the Bryant 
and East End branches and the Public Services, Youth Services, and Adult Services 
departments at the main branch in Benton.


Qualifications: 

Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited university and 5 or more 
years of supervisory experience or any equivalent combination of experience and 
training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A professional 
demeanor and strong initiative to be a library leader are essential.


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

▪ Knowledge of the principles and practices of professional library work
▪ Computer and office equipment fluency and willingness to learn new 
    technologies.
▪ Knowledge of supervisory and employee training and development methods
▪ Must like working with people and be able to motivate staff and foster teamwork 
    across department lines to create a positive workplace environment
▪ Ability to communicate, work effectively and tactfully with employees and the 
    public in a diplomatic fashion
▪ Professional demeanor and ability to maintain confidentiality of records.
▪ Must exercise sound judgment, identify and assess problems, and decisively 
    implement appropriate solutions or recommendations.
▪ Ability to effectively multitask and keep track of ongoing projects and timelines 
    simultaneously.
▪ Ability to work a flexible schedule, including a Saturday rotation and some 
    evenings
▪ Maintains professional relationships with co-workers and supervisor while 
    utilizing excellent communication skills.
▪ Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle for job related transportation
▪ Sit, stand, bend, reach, and squat. Lift and move up to 50 pounds.
▪ Effectively communicate ideas and information both in written and verbal form.
▪ Set priorities in order to meet assignment deadlines
▪ Effectively read and understand information contained in memoranda, reports, 
    and bulletins, etc.
▪ Planning and Organization Skills: develop required plans to solve problems; take 
    advantage of opportunities to accomplish goals; establish systematic methods of 
    accomplishing goals.


Responsibilities:

▪ This position exercises management and supervision over the library in the 
    absence or unavailability of the Library Director.
▪ Manages, coaches, and holds accountable the managers of the Bryant and East 
    End Branches and Public Services, Youth Services, and Adult Services 
    departments. Fosters teamwork and cohesion among departments and 
    branches. 
▪ Resolves issues among public-facing departments 
▪ Helps develop and administer policy concerning library operations
▪ This position requires cooperation and integration with administrators and 
    managers in identifying issues and trends and planning for progressive change to 
    ensure optimum service to the community.
▪ Focuses overall effort on providing exceptional customer service, including 
    rallying the main library team around this goal and resolving patron complaints as 
    needed.
▪ Assists director with planning, organizing, and directing library services
▪ Builds partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, and 
    community leaders.
▪ Ability to become a certified passport acceptance agent within first 90 days of 
    employment
