JOB TITLE: Library Assistant (Pre-K to 5)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma
- Advanced training/education desirable
- Prior related experience preferable
- Basic PC desk top experience (e-mail, data entry, word processing, web search, etc.)
- Keyboarding skills
- Such additions and alternatives to the above qualifications as may be appropriate and acceptable
JOB PURPOSE: To provide operational assistance to the certified staff and instructional support for students in the library/media center.
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator/Teacher
RESPONSIBILITY/ACCOUNTABILITY:
Responsible for quality and quantity of own work as assigned by certified staff member or building administrator; may provide some work direction to Library/Media Center volunteers
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide guidance for and assist in obtaining information for students.
- Maintain current inventory of supplies and suggest items for acquisition as needed.
- Maintain familiarity with appropriate library software programs, Dewey decimal system, library categories, and call numbers.
- Assist in check out and return of books and other center materials
- Catalogue media center materials and equipment.
- Provide technical guidance, assistance, and direction to students and for teacher presentations.
- Assist students in making proper use of center equipment and materials.
- Keep center materials and equipment in working order.
- Maintain an orderly environment for teaching/learning. Return center books and materials to proper locations in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate flexibility and ability to respond to changing building priorities.
- Demonstrate ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Maintain high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about
- students.
- Proactively work to utilize work day effectively; manage time to meet
- work load demands and building schedules.
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with co-workers
- Assists with Ready-Access digital learning through management of devices, simple troubleshooting, user support, inventory, report generation, A/V distribution, organizing repairs, assisting students with printing, and laminating.
- With the Library Media Specialist, maintains a welcoming, user-friendly, student-centered physical and online learning environment.
- Prepares purchase orders and related correspondence. Requisitions, receives, reconciles, and verifies vendor orders for all new library materials, equipment and supplies with LMS oversight.
- Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
- Assigns and updates passwords as needed.
- Assists the library media specialist in reading, literacy and other instructional activities as needed and assists teachers in literary activities such as story reading.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 184 day position
EVALUATION: This position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Digital Learning and building principal in accordance with agreement between the Wilton Board of Education and WAESCA
