Classification:                   Part-Time, Non-exempt  

 

Direct reports:                None

 

Position Summary:        Welcoming (customer service), cataloging, circulation desk procedures, coffee station, donation analysis, library tidiness and organization, opening and closing procedures, shelf management, and other duties as assigned.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Customer service (warmly greet and assist patrons)
  • Cataloging (MARC catalog books to be added to the collection)
  • Circulation desk (answer phone and respond to emails, check out/in, confirm study room requests, renewals, reserves, open new patron accounts, receive payment for book replacement costs and membership contracts)
  • Coffee station (be sure coffee is fresh and hot, supplies are well-stocked, and area is clean)
  • Donations (compare book donations against the collection for possible addition or replacement)
  • Library tidiness (collect unshelved books, straighten chairs, pick-up trash, clean-up where necessary) 
  • Procedures (follow and complete opening, closing and library procedures)
  • Shelf management (organize and reshelve items in an accurate and timely manner, perform shelf-reads as assigned)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High personal and professional integrity consistent with the biblical standards and our Statement of Faith and governing values of the Seminary
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Experience and understanding of seminary education and the needs of seminary library patrons (preferred)
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit using a computer for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to reach and stoop.

 

Work Schedule:

  • Must be able to work primarily evening shifts (5:00-9:30pm) and Saturdays (9:00am-1:00 pm and/or 1:00-5:00pm).

 

Evaluation

The position described above, like other staff, will be evaluated at the end of an Introductory

Period (90-day review), and then, if applicable, on an annual basis.
