Provide customer service and perform a wide range of traditional and online library services.

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES

      

  • Assist patrons in-person or over the phone answering questions about hours of operation, availability of materials, requests for books to be sent to other branches, material renewal, handle complaints, explain policies and procedures, and create new library memberships.
  • Issue library cards by inputting information into computer and explaining policies, collect fines and fees, process Inter-library loans, and sort, separate, and arrange material alphabetically and numerically in prescribed manner.
  • Perform copy cataloging and find records in OCLC database.
  • Process library materials, process interlibrary loads, and retrieve and sort items for the courier.
  • Check materials in and out, and sort and shelve library materials.
  • Troubleshoot printers, copiers, computers, and other peripheral equipment, work with IT to resolve issues, confer with supervisor for advice and information to relay back to the public, respond to emails and phone calls, and provide assistance and advice accordingly.
  • Receive delivered items from UPS/Fed Ex, match items in boxes to the packing slips by checking in the catalog to see if there is a bibliographic record for the item indicated by barcode or post-it note, if no bibliographic record, forwards the item to the appropriate cataloger, if the item is an audiobook or DVD the item must be unwrapped and opened.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK


  • High school degree or GED equivalent. 
  • Two (2) years of library experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Arizona residents must have an Arizona Driver’s License upon hire; newly established Arizona Residents must have one within 30 days of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


  • Knowledge of library policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of cataloging rules and regulations, library classification, and reference/collection resources.
  • Knowledge of automated library information systems.
  • Knowledge of online ordering systems. 
  • Knowledge of how to use the online portal, select and identify specific titles, and make decisions about how to use the data accessed.
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and statistical databases.
  • Skill in utilizing personal computer software programs affecting assigned work and in compiling and preparing spreadsheets and reports.
  • Skill in utilizing automated library information systems and in the use of various reference resources.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other affiliate library staff, management, outside agencies, community groups, and the general public. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.  The work also requires the ability to finger, grasp, handle, perform repetitive motion, kneel, speak, hear, stand, stoop, walk, operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment, and demonstrate visual and mental acuity.

Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires the ability to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
