Denver Language School (DLS) is a public, tuition-free language immersion charter school located in Denver. DLS provides an innovative academic program to reach the highest levels of student achievement through comprehensive language immersion education in Spanish, Mandarin Chinese and French for middle school. DLS is a unique learning environment because students are learning content in the target language, spending between 50%-90% of their school day immersed in their chosen language.Β 

Denver Language School at the Gilpin Campus (2949 California St.) is opening its first ever Building Library! This is a new vacancy at Denver Language School. We are searching for a Library Assistant to work 40 hours per week in person at DLS-Gilpin, 8 hours per day. Tentatively, the working hours for this role are as follows: Mondays and Fridays 6:45 - 2:45; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9:30 until 5:30. The appointee will work under the remote direction of our Contracted Librarian for 12 months, with the opportunity for professional development and advancement for a suitability qualified and motivated individual.Β 

This is a flexible job opportunity. Denver Language School has an immediate need for a Library Assistant in SY25/26. However the school sees a longer term opportunity for an employee who could do both the Library Assistant work and could also teach up to 5 elective classes (or .22 1.0 FTE) per week. All library/teaching work would be performed during a regular 40 hour work week.

Pay and Benefits:

  • Annual salary range for 1.0 FTE Library Assistant only: $36,666 - $38,155, based upon academic qualifications and experience;
  • Projected - annual salary range for 1.0 FTE Library Assistant + Elective Teacher: $40,664- $42,500;
  • 10 days of PTO with an option to roll up to 6 days to the following school year;

Role Description:

This is a new-role at DLS for a developing part of our service. We are actively seeking and recruiting for a highly adaptable and industrious professional at a stage of their career whereby there is genuine excitement about the opportunity to take ownership over a project. The actual nature of the role is to be determined in partnership with the appointee. At this stage, we are looking for someone willing and able to:

  • Unashamedly support, foster, curate and cherish a haven of calm and serenity;
  • Be a passionate advocate for literacy and a champion for books;
  • Act as an ally and partner with Gilpin Campus educators, particularly those with the responsibility to build grade-level readiness in Language Arts;
  • Be highly organized, and to protect the library as a sanctuary, to take great professional pride in ensuring systems are organized and managed with integrity;
  • Take direction from our expert Librarian, and be willing to learn and grow within the role;
  • Act as a voice for children - find frequent opportunities to elicit feedback and to act upon feedback in order to improve, grow, and refine our collection;
  • Recognise the unique challenges AND opportunities of serving students in French, Mandarin, Spanish and English;
  • Be a supporter of school-wide initiatives to reduce our reliance on 1-to-1 Chromebook technologies;
  • Model skills as a researcher-in-chief; the appointee will be expected to help build our students’ understanding of the Library as a place of learning, knowledge, and excellence;
  • Serve as the Advanced Placement Examination Coordinator and comply with regulations and training requirements;
  • Strong preference given to the candidate able to teach one of the following elective classes: English Language Arts, Effective Study Habits, Global Studies, Ethics/Morality, Theory of Knowledge, Critical Thinking.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Masters degree preferred
  • Intermediate proficiency with computers, office software (e.g., MS Word, Excel)
  • Ability to operate standard office and library equipment (e.g., copier, barcode scanner, laminator);
  • Experience working with students aged 10-14 years old;
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, bend, reach, and stand for extended periods;
  • Comfortable with routine movement such as shelving books and shifting library materials;
  • The ability to work irregular hours at the direction of the Campus Principal.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Familiarity with Dewey Decimal system or library classification systems is a plus;
  • Familiarity with library management systems (e.g., Follett Destiny, Sierra, or Koha);
  • A strong preference and weighting in the decision-making process will consider experience the appointee has as a Library Assistant and/or Academic Research;
  • A willingness to engage in remote, June/July 2025, professional development prior to taking the position;
  • Exemplifies flexibility and open thinking.
