Job Description

Job Title: Librarian (Preschool–8th Grade)

Position Type: Part-Time (28 hours per week)

 

Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Part-Time Librarian to oversee and enhance library services for preschool through 8th-grade students. The Librarian will be responsible for creating a welcoming library environment, supporting students' reading development, and teaching library skills. This position will play a key role in fostering a love for reading and supporting the overall educational experience.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Faith Integration: Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school. Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.

  • Library Management: Organize and supervise the circulation of library materials. Maintain library records, statistics, and databases. Ensure the library environment is welcoming and conducive to learning.

  • Teaching Library Classes: Develop and teach library skills classes for students in preschool through 8th grade, including lessons on book selection, library organization, and information literacy.

  • Collection Development: Select and order books, periodicals, audiovisual materials, and digital resources to meet the needs and interests of students.

  • Program Development: Plan and implement library programs and activities that encourage reading and learning, such as book fairs and author visits.

  • Professional Development: Stay current with library best practices, children's literature, and educational technology trends. Participate in relevant professional development opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Education is required, with additional education in Library Science or a related field preferred.

  • Knowledge and Skills:

    • Understanding of child development and age-appropriate literature.
    • Familiarity with library management systems and educational technology.
    • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Required to work during school hours, with flexibility to attend occasional evening events.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 25 pounds and engage in activities such as bending, stooping, and reaching.
