Description
Supervises public services function of the library including reference and circulation, provides complex legal reference and research services, maintains financial records, and recommends additions to the collection and policies and procedures.

Management Scope: Supervises non-exempt staff and accountable for approximately $250,000 in operating budget expenditures.

Responsibilities
1. Supervises reference desk to ensure Law Library services are delivered in an efficient and professional manner.

2. Provides specialized subject matter reference service in person, email, or by telephone to judges, attorneys, and the general public.

3. Conducts in-depth research to stay abreast of changes in laws, policies and procedures that impact the law library.

4. Monitors fiscal appropriations for law books and automated services.

5. Utilizes department-specific and county-wide specialized computer systems for data collection, balancing accounts, processing payments, inventories, reports, and patron assisted training.

6. Supervises the maintenance of the collection, to include recommending collection additions, loose-leaf filing, withdrawing superseded materials, binding journals, repairing or replacing damaged items and re-shelving and shifting items.

7. Supervises sales transactions, cash register close out, and deposit of receipts.

8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education, Experience and Training:
Education and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (A.L.A) accredited school. One (1) year of work-related experience.

Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Requires mastery of legal research. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Knowledge of on-line database searching.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:
Ability to lift boxes and books up to 25 lbs., unassisted. Ability to reach above shoulders to access high shelves and bend to reach low shelves. Ability to read fine print.
