Parker University Library seeks an innovative, enthusiastic, and user-focused individual to significantly contribute to the development, implementation and assessment of information literacy to students and faculty. Oversees all library circulation and facility operations and equipment; and provides supervision, training and management of library work-study students.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provides instruction through workshops, course sessions, and online modules on topics such as database searching, scholarly publishing, reference management, and literature reviews.
Creates and maintains library resource guides and other materials to promote student information literacy.
Energetically builds and maintains highly collaborative relationships with faculty and students across all programs to ensure engagement with the ACRL Information Literacy Framework; actively seeking opportunities to provide instruction on information literacy skills.
Create and lead professional development for faculty and librarians on information literacy and research methods.
Envisions new avenues for student and faculty engagement and collaborates with other university departments/programs to strengthen support efforts.
Participate in university programs and events that promote student success, academic preparedness, retention, and graduation.
Regularly reviews the library collection and makes recommendations for new resources to increase student success.
Maintains excellent customer service standard, assisting patrons with catalog searches, database help, and general reference inquiries.
Manages full operation of library circulation functions, while implementing circulation policies, procedures, and processes, such as helping students check out and return materials, renew materials, identifying overdue books, obtain access to reserve collection, etc.
Actively contribute to innovative library engagement, providing library instruction and outreach across the university community.
Maintain library usage statistics and assessments of student learning; prepares any necessary statistical reports for library and university as needed.
Provide point-of-need research consultations and resource support for students and faculty physically and virtually.
Answers directional and simple reference inquiries from library patrons online (email/chat), in person, and by phone. Provides tours of library facilities as needed.
Serves as liaison between librarians and library users.
Subscribe to appropriate listservs to keep aware of emerging technologies and changing processes and policies; attend professional development sessions as needed.
Responsible for maintaining physical library space and equipment, such as printers and computers, and acts as liaison with repair personnel.
Keep the library neat, orderly and monitor noise level.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Scholarly Engagement.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
EDUCATION/EXPERTISE:
Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited master’s program.
Three (3) years’ experience in a library setting, preferably in higher education.
Experience or interest in teaching information literacy skills in alignment with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education.
Knowledge of health science literature and reference tools preferred.
Proven ability to supervise a team effectively.
Experience using Ex Libris Alma, PrimoVE and OCLC; preferred.
JOB REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS/ETC:
Knowledge of research processes, scholarly communication models, pedagogical methods, and information retrieval.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students in and out of the library on departmental projects and initiatives in a friendly, courteous, and energetic professional manner.
Aptitude for learning new technologies to support the development of library training programs, orientations, and tutorials.
Proven experience successfully managing multiple simultaneous projects, creation and implementation of long-term plans to achieve results.
Strong organization, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills to work with library staff and patrons.
Knowledge of library policies, procedures, processes, and practices.
Proficient in software applications common in higher education environments, such as the Microsoft Suite.
Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; legible handwriting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Visual acuity to use a keyboard and view a computer terminal. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.
May require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand and walk. Dexterity with ability to reach books on shelves. This may include lifting, pulling, pushing, bending or squatting.
Ability to occasionally lift, carry or move light to medium weight up to (12) pounds.
