    Title: Librarian (Elementary)

     

    Reports To: Principal

     

    Supervises: Library Assistant

     

    Employee Type: Full-Time, School Year Only, Salaried, Exempt

     

    Summary
    Work alongside classroom teachers to create an exciting and enriching library and media center that is inviting and relevant to students’ learning. Enable teachers and students to effectively use the instructional materials in the center, and to acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities to take full advantage of library materials and resources.
     
    Job Responsibilities

    1. Provides students with an appropriate learning experience in the CCS library that contributes to the achievement of the goals and objectives of the curriculum.
    2. Manages a vibrant and effective library, promoting a love of reading
    3. Shares a commitment to the success of the mission, goals, and objectives of CCS.
    4. Demonstrates effective planning and organization for instruction of library classes.
    5. Selects appropriate materials for implementation of CCS's curriculum and adapts materials and methods to learning styles and abilities of students.
    6. Uses creative instructional methods and procedures and adapts effectively to unusual situations.
    7. Demonstrates exceptional classroom techniques. 
    8. Maintains and inventories all materials in the CCS library regularly. 
    9. Orders all materials necessary for the growth of the CCS library.
    10. Communicates clearly with students, parents, CCS staff and administration.  
    11. Demonstrates genuine concern for students in a climate characterized by high personal and student expectations.
    12. Participates in the development of policies and regulations that affect instruction and conditions for success.
    13. Uses technology effectively for instruction, record keeping and other administrative tasks, and communications.
    14. Shares responsibility for professional, cooperative staff relations and for out-of-class activities important to the operation of the school, including demonstrating flexibility when working with colleagues.  This also includes attendance at all staff, committee and grade level meetings.
    15. Enforces the CCS Student Code of Conduct, the CCS Uniform Code, and the CCS Computer Usage Code
    16. Promotes good citizenship through actions as a role model
    17. Conducts himself or herself according to professional, ethical principles that reflect favorably upon the individual and the school
    18. Maintains the highest level of confidentiality pertaining to school and students’ information, progress, and records. 
    19. Abides by the CCS Employee Manual, CCS policies and procedures, and the PA Code of Professional Conduct for Educators
     
    Qualifications
    1. A four-year college degree in education, reading or a related field, preferably with PA State Teacher Certification.  
    2. Master’s degree, with PA Library Science certification preferred. If certification is from a different state, PA certification must be obtained within a determined time frame.
    3. Experience and demonstrated competence as a Library-Media Specialist.
    4. A demonstrated enthusiasm for literature, reading and a love of books.
    5. Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
    6. Knowledge of basic computer operations
    7. Required Clearances include Criminal Background Clearance (Act 34), Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151), and FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114), all dated within one year of receipt
    8. Meets criteria for employment in a PA Public School
