    Media Specialist  

    SALARY: 

    As determined by DD2 Classified Salary Schedule 

    DEPARTMENT: 

    Instruction 

    LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 

    195 to 205 days 

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    1. Approved degree from an accredited college or university with library information science program. 

     
    1. Valid South Carolina certificate in library media. 

     
    1. Other qualifications as the Board may deem advisable.

    Principal 

    JOB SUMMARY: 

    The Media Specialist provides an integrated information program that includes library, media, and technology resources in support of the instruction program of the school. 

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    1. Demonstrates professional qualities that will enhance the Media Specialist's relationship with staff, students, parents, and community. 

     
    1. Assists students in meeting their educational, vocational, personal, and social needs. 

     
    1. Participates in school and district curriculum development and integrates these developments into the library media program. 

     
    1. Demonstrates professional development through activities designed to enhance the media specialist’s knowledge, skills and competencies. 

     
    1. Acquires, organizes, and disseminates information. 

     
    1. Assists in the development of a school wide program that encourages reading and literature development. 

     
    1. Provides instruction in information resources. 

     
    1. Manages and encourages the independent use of facility, collection, and equipment by students and faculty. 

     
    1. Provides guidance in the usage of the media center and its resources, that encourages flexible scheduling whenever possible. 

     
    1. Manages the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the operation of the media center. 

     
    1. Maintains current media center inventory. 

     
    1. Maintains current card catalogue/automated catalogue. 

     
    1. Maintains professional media center collection. 

     
    1. Keeps media center equipment in good repair. 

     
    1. Supervises media staff and/or volunteers. 

     
    1. Maintains all media center records including: 

     

    Statistical records Budget requests 

     

    Circulation Reports 

     

    Inventory Book counts 

     

    Financial records Federal reports 

     

    TV surveys 

     
    1. Manages the school’s ITV services:  Maintains and arranges schedules. 

     
    1. Understands and adheres to contract obligations, school board policies, and administrative school policies. 

     
    1. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Principal. 

    EVALUATION: 

    Performances of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation.
