General Summary: | ||
Under general supervision of the principal and in consultation with the director of instructional technology, provides all students, faculty and staff with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual growth; aids all students in acquiring the skills needed to access a variety of learning commons (library) media resources. | ||

Knowledge/Skills: | ||
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to provide instruction to students through explanation, demonstration and/or supervised practice. Ability to supervise students and maintain order in an out-of-classroom situation. Ability to operate general office and library equipment in the performance of daily activities. Ability to conduct an inventory and construct and administer a budget. Ability to classify, catalogue, and process all library materials. Ability to procure appropriate materials for the Learning Commons. Ability to provide training, instruction, and guidance to library assistants. Extensive knowledge of business English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and mathematical computation. Knowledge of the principles of office management. Knowledge of the records and reports which must be prepared and maintained. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to demonstrate high level application of technology devices in the performance of daily activities. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation and utilization of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with students and their parents, district staff, teachers and all other groups involved with the activities of the position. | ||
Working Conditions: | ||
Duties are performed in an office and learning commons setting with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to work requiring occasional lifting/moving of items up to fifty pounds. Occasional travel may be required; no overnight travel required. | ||
Responsibility: | ||
Responsible for learning commons budget construction and administration as assigned. Supervises students and library assistant(s) in the learning commons. | ||
Evaluation: | ||
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the school board’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel. | ||
