The Bellaire City Library is seeking a Youth Services Librarian who thrives in a public-facing role—supporting patrons at the reference and circulation desks, designing engaging youth programs, and promoting literacy through outreach and events. YOUTH SERVICES LIBRARIAN’s role within the big picture of the City’s overall success:
Provides comprehensive library reference services to patrons, including assisting with database navigation, and planning, conducting, and coordinating programs for youth.

LIBRARIAN functions include but are not limited to the following:

Reference Services Oversight:

  • Conduct reference interviews to determine patron information needs.

  • Assist patrons in locating information and accessing library resources.

  • Evaluate and recommend alternative information sources as needed.

  • Instruct patrons on utilizing online databases and digital resources effectively.

Circulation Desk Management:

  • Manage circulation desk operations, including checking materials in and out, issuing library cards, and processing fines.

  • Provide assistance to patrons in using library equipment and locating items.

Programs Coordination:

  • Organize and coordinate programs for youth, including special interest programs.

  • Event scheduling and promotion, including creating flyers and setting up displays.

  • Provide follow-up support for patrons participating in library programs.

  • Coordinate and plan summer reading club registration and programs to promote literacy.

  • Evaluate program success and recommend improvements.

Additional Duties:

  • Participate in book selection and ordering, as well as shelving and weeding materials.

  • Manage promotional items and represent the library at community events and outreach activities.

  • Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered:

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Library Science with ALA accreditation

  • Experience: 1 year of previous relevant work experience is required.

  • Supervisory: No previous supervisory experience is required.

  • Certifications/Licenses: None
