Description

An exciting maximum term full-time contract opportunity has arisen in our Cultural Services team for a Youth Services Librarian for a period of 14 months to cover a period of parental leave. 

In this role, the successful applicant will report to the Coordinator Library Services.

The key responsibilities of this role:

  • Contribute content and recommendations to the City's website and the library's overall virtual presence with particular emphasis on promoting library resources, programs and services to families, children and youth. 
  • Identify key trends and strategically develop and implement children and youth programming and servicing opportunities. 
  • Plan, implement and evaluate the annual WA Young Writers Award and Shaun Tan Award for Young Artists. 
  • Facilitate and participate in collection development and maintenance of materials for children and youth within collection guidelines. 
  • Assist library customers to become familiar in the use of catalogues, electronic resources and other information resources

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Degree/Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies (or equivalent), with eligibility for professional personal membership to the Australian Library and Information Association
  • Considerable experience in event and project planning.
  • Considerable experience in collection development, stock selection principles cataloguing and use of common reference tools. 
  • Highly developed customer service skills.
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills. 
  • High level of ability to use Microsoft Office software. 
  • Working with Children Clearance. 
  • Reliable transport is required as this position requires travel to deliver outreach library services.
