JOB PURPOSE

Provides information and instructional services in individual and group settings using library resources and acts as resource person for daily operations to meet the information needs of the community, with a focus on youth and families 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and conducts library classes/events, community educational initiatives, and special events related to youth (Ages birth through 17 years), adding elements of technology into classes
  • Familiar with all collections and all services we offer including readers advisory and information services with particular knowledge of early childhood literacy, youth literature and youth reader's advisory
  • Regularly works youth service desk at Main library and other public service desks as assigned
  • Acts as liaison with LPCPL Outreach staff to develop kits and deliver lessons and trainings for educators and students
  • Coordinates, supervises and manages the work of volunteers/interns related to programs, classes, events, and other special projects 
  • Completes assigned collection projects 
  • Participates on planning committees 
  • Prepares and analyzes statistical reports
  • Provides marketing content and information classes/events and initiatives
  • Writes requests for proposals for grants, services, and programs
  • Attends conferences, workshops and training sessions as part of on-going professional development
  • Applies LPCPL's customer service standards (courtesy, Professionalism, attitude, safety, quality)
  • Creates a safe and clean environment for customers and staff
  • Applies Code of Conduct policy consistently with all customers
  • Abides by established policies and procedures

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • You have a Masters of Library Science degree and an Indiana Library Certification Level 3 or the ability to obtain within 3 years; must maintain all certification requirements
  • You have 1 year of library or teaching experience; familiar with infant, child, and adolescent learning and development
  • You have public speaking experience
  • You use creativity and innovation in planning and conducting classes and events
  • You use good judgement when making independent decisions
  • You have the ability to organize multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines
  • You are comfortable and confident working in an environment with a variety of hardware devices and software products, and willingness to learn new technologies

  • You have a valid Indiana driver’s license and the ability to obtain a for hire endorsement within 90 days if needed

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Office environment; exposure to materials returned in unfavorable conditions, occasional exposure to outside weather conditions, odor, noise, heat and cold
  • Occasionally drives a variety of company vehicles to all locations and scheduled stops
  • Mobility: Frequently lifts and carries 10-50 pounds; occasionally pushes/pulls up to 50 pounds using cart; occasionally sits, stands, kneels, squats, bends, twists, grasps, and reaches above shoulders to move materials
  • Vision abilities include: close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to respond to fire alarms, warning sirens, and phone pages
