Job Description
Reporting to the Head of the Mervyn H. Sterne Library Department of Research and Learning, the Reference Librarian for Education and Educational Technology will provide research, instruction, collection development, and outreach services to the School of Education. The librarian will also assist faculty with educational technology and instructional design. Required duties include: Serving as liaison to the UAB School of Education. Providing specialized research assistance to patrons in education through multiple modes of delivery, including in-depth consultations. Working with professors to develop instructional materials and library assignments related to education or educational technology. Designing and delivering instruction based on curricular needs. Developing reusable and one-time learning objects such as library guides, videos, and tutorials Participating in collection development including the state textbook collection, the juvenile collection, and the curriculum collection. Working with International Baccalaureate programs from surrounding High Schools to support research for their Extended Essay. Providing general reference and research assistance to library patrons in other subject areas through multiple modes of delivery, including chat. Performing other duties and special projects as assigned, depending on expertise, interests, and the needs of the libraries Review of candidates will begin on September 1.

Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in library science from a school accredited by the American Library Association or academic credentials appropriate to the position Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks. Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment. Commitment to cultural competency, diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications
A degree, formal coursework, or demonstrated interest in education or instructional design Master’s or other advanced degree in Education. 1-2 years of relevant library experience (may include coursework or library school experience). Knowledge of reference, instruction, collection development, and outreach services in an academic library setting. Potential to achieve the requirements for promotion in the areas of librarianship, research, and service. Knowledge of education resources, services, and trends. Experience with citation management software such as EndNote, Mendeley, and Zotero. Familiarity with an LMS such as Canvas, Blackboard, or Schoology. Familiarity with applying emerging technologies to information and instructional services, including LibGuides, Adobe Creative Suite, and video- or screen-capturing software.
