The Technical Services Librarian is responsible for overseeing and managing cataloging, acquisitions, processing, and metadata services for the university library. This role ensures accurate bibliographic records, access to materials in all formats, and the smooth functioning of technical workflows. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technologically proficient, and committed to enhancing library access and discoverability for students, faculty, and staff.


Responsibilities

  • Perform original and copy cataloging of print and electronic resources in accordance with national and international standards (e.g., MARC, RDA, LC classification, LCSH).
  • Maintain the integrity of the integrated library system (ILS) catalog and bibliographic records.
  • Create and manage metadata for digital resources and institutional repositories.
  • Oversee ordering, receiving, and processing of all library materials, including books, e-resources, media, and serials.
  • Collaborate with subject librarians and faculty to manage acquisitions and collection development workflows.
  • Track budgets and prepare acquisition reports as needed.
  • Ensure efficient link resolver and knowledge base maintenance for access to electronic resources.
  • Assist in the implementation of new systems, tools, or standards to improve services.
  • May supervise staff and student workers involved in acquisitions, cataloging, and processing.
  • Provide training on cataloging practices, systems, and technical services workflows.
  • Work closely with Public Services, Digital Services, and IT teams to ensure resource accessibility.
  • Participate in library committees, assessment activities, and special projects.

Education

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Experience with cataloging, metadata, or acquisitions in an academic or research library.
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
