Position Title: Law Library Student Assistant
Department: Duquesne University School of Law, Center for Legal Information (Law Library)
Pay: $11/hour – 10 hours per week
Requirements: Duquesne University undergraduate or nonlaw graduate student
Description:
Student Assistants are responsible for providing continuous library coverage of the Circulation Desk. Duties also include charging/discharging library materials and participating in the stack maintenance program, and research assistance. The Circulation Desk is staffed by the Circulation Supervisor and Circulation Student Assistants.
Responsibilities
Circulation: Circulation Staff assist patrons in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to:
1. Circulation -
1. Assists in charging and discharging library materials to patrons with proper identification
2. Makes sure that books are sensitized when checked in, and desensitized when checked out
3. Has a knowledge of library rules and policies regarding circulation issues such as reserve material loan periods and renewal limits
2. Stack Maintenance -
1. Routinely checks reserve materials to ensure that they are shelved properly
2. Shelves books and participates in the shelf reading program
3. Information -
1. Practices phone etiquette when answering the phone
2. Provides library information to patrons asking about library hours, directions, library material locations, etc…
3. Assists patrons with using LOCATE, online catalog
4. Additional duties as needed
