The opportunity
Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking Student Library Assistants for our Campus location to provide exceptional assistance to library users in person. Library Assistants serve as the first point of contact for users of the Shapiro Library floor, and are required to be familiar with library operations, maintain user confidentiality, and communicate effectively with supervisors, users, peers, and faculty. Assistants should also be highly detail oriented and demonstrate a commitment to teamwork, as well as responsibility and flexibility.
Job Responsibilities:
Serve as a knowledge and approachable resource for Shapiro Library service points and departments housed in the Wolak Library Learning Commons (WLLC), demonstrating professionalism while guiding users to appropriate resources within the WLLC
Direct users and guests to other campus locations
Assist with setup, maintenance and teardown of seasonal displays and rotating book displays
Accurately circulate materials using library systems, demonstrating attention to detail; students should have working knowledge of circulation policies and procedures
Demonstrate accuracy with shelving library items and shelf reading library collection, showing a commitment to continual learning
Maintain confidentiality of user records
Assist Information Desk Supervisors and perform routine tasks with initiative and responsibility
Contribute to the upkeep and presentation of the library space, including light cleaning, chair arrangement, and general tidying
Run errands between buildings as necessary
Assist Student Library Assistant Supervisors in staffing the Information Desk in the evenings and weekends
Take on additional duties as assigned to support library operations.
Qualifications:
Current enrollment in classes as part of a SNHU degree program
Proficiency in English is
Punctual, courteous, respectful, professional, and reports to work as scheduled
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior customer service and/or office work experience is a plus
Basic computer troubleshooting skills
Team player
Work Hours:
Varies; nights, mornings, and weekends are . Shifts available M-F 8:30am-7:30pm and Sunday/Saturday: 11:30am-7:30pm
Weekly Hours not to exceed 20 hours

Learning Outcomes:
Students will receive customer service and user experience training and will operate within a directed team environment. They will also gain operational knowledge of library systems, policies and procedures, and general library skills such as the Library of Congress shelving system and FOLIO ILS.

Compensation
The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
