Prescott Memorial Library invites applicants for the position of Special Collections Librarian and University Archivist.

Providing leadership for the Special Collections, Manuscripts, and Archives Department, this Librarian is responsible for acquiring, organizing, and preserving a wide range of primary sources, as well as facilitating access to them and performing research services. This Librarian also works closely with other departments to support the Library’s mission. The Department preserves rare books, manuscripts, maps, and other materials, the Louisiana Tech Museum, the American Foreign Policy Center, and collections documenting the history of Louisiana Tech University and the region. The University Archivist is responsible for the processing and long-term retention of historical university documents as well for official records management.

This is a 12-month tenure-track faculty department head appointment at a rank and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers the Special Collections, Manuscripts, and Archives Department.

  • Ensures compliance with the Records Management Program through the Louisiana State Archives.

  • Cultivates community partners and donors.

  • Provides information and user services.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of policies and standards relevant to special collections.

  • Promotes collections through physical and online exhibitions, publications, presentations, and other outreach activities.

  • Supervises staff and participates in overseeing a student internship program.

  • Assists in planning future accommodations of special collections and archives, including preservation, reconfiguring physical space, and storage.

  • Fulfills the requirements and expectations for scholarship as well as service to the University, the Library, and profession.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.

  • Three years of experience working in special collections or archives in an academic or research library. 

  • Supervisory and/or management experience.

  • Experience processing archival and/or special collections.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Experience with donor relations.

  • Experience with conservation.

  • Experience with digitization.

  • Experience with exhibit curation.  

  • Experience with grant funded projects.

ABOUT PRESCOTT MEMORIAL LIBRARY: Prescott Memorial Library provides a wide variety of physical and digital information resources and services. Centrally located on campus, the Library occupies nine floors of Wyly Tower which is connected to its original three story building. Collections total 3.9 million items, including 2,000 serials and 40,000 maps. A Regional Federal Depository Library, Prescott Memorial Library is also a historical depository for Louisiana state documents. Special Collections, Manuscripts, and Archives on the fourth floor preserves rare books, manuscripts, maps and other materials, including collections documenting the history of Louisiana Tech University and the region.

Prescott Memorial Library is a member of LOUIS, the consortium of public and private college and university libraries in Louisiana.
