The primary function of this position is to provide stellar customer service to library users, including circulation, reference, programming, and all services. Engage in all aspects of daily branch operations. Provide guidance on branch processes, procedures, and policy for branch staff. Serve as supervisor when the Branch Manager is not available.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists patrons with all aspects of library usage and information needs.
Answers directional, informational, and reference questions of library patrons.
Utilizes databases as needed to answer questions.
Assists with all functions of the Circulation Desk, including issuing of library cards, checking in and out of library materials.
Shelves library material.
Maintains and troubleshoots computer equipment; maintains periodicals and reference materials.
Performs electronic ordering, downloading into the system, and tracking book orders.
Verifies, processes, and receives all material orders for branch libraries.
Processes interlibrary loan requests for library patrons.
Develops and implements library programs.
Compiles and produces computerized monthly statistical usage reports.
Initiates and handles special projects.
Maintains web presence via webpage, county calendar, and social media.
Aids in training new personnel, volunteers, and provides direction on procedures.
Uses the ILS data system to add, delete, change status, make designations, and other changes to items of the collection as needed.
Publicizes library services and events.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.
In the event of special, emergency, or disaster situations, employee may be required to work schedules other than those for which they are regularly scheduled in any capacity deemed appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Four (4) years minimum of prior related work experience required; experience in Public Libraries preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to oversee the work of a team engaged in providing specific services, completing specific projects, or assisting other units.
Ability to perform technical or trades-based work that requires a solid understanding of statistics OR use of heavy equipment. Some of the tasks performed include participating in data collection and detailed analysis, reporting on the accomplishment of specific departmental goals and tasks.
Ability to follow basic guidelines for operational activities.
Ability to oversee and manage more than two employees in the organization performing similar work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
Manual Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Visual Acuity: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
