Description

Lee County Library System invites candidates to join our dedicated team at Library Processing.  We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-directed team player to serve as supervisor of the Acquisitions department.

Adjacent to the East County Regional Library in Lehigh Acres, Florida, Library Processing provides centralized technical services such as selecting, ordering, cataloging, and processing materials, administering the Integrated Library System (ILS), interlibrary loan, and transferring of library materials to our 13 branches.

Compensation:

  • Expected hiring range is $65,000 to $85,000 annually.
  • Offer based on competencies, experience, and internal equity.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads, trains, develops, and evaluates assigned staff.
  • Manages ordering, invoicing and receiving, claims, and payments for library resources.
  • Maintains accurate budget records, monitors expenditures, implements electronic ordering functions, and performs end-of-year activities in the library’s ILS.
  • Works with Library Fiscal and County Procurement staff to manage and process invoices.
  • Gathers and analyzes data, prepares budget reports to support collections, and manages the development of the materials budget.
  • Collaborates with other Library Processing departments to integrate Acquisitions processes with overall Library Processing workflow.

Education, Experience, Licensing

Education:  Any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an accredited graduate library school program or a closely related field.

Professional Experience:  Two years of demonstrated supervisory experience in a library or customer service environment, or a closely related field.


Preferred Qualifications:

Education:  A Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an accredited graduate library school program.

Professional Experience:  Two or more years of experience as a professional librarian.   Two years supervising paid library staff.  Two or more years of customer service experience in libraries.

Driver’s License:  Possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Supplemental Information

Knowledge of Library Materials and Acquisitions:

  • Understand how libraries acquire, select, organize, and manage their collections.
  • Familiarity with library acquisitions processes and procedures.

Independence and Professional Judgment:

  • Ability to work autonomously while making informed decisions.
  • Apply professional judgment when handling tasks related to library services.

Adaptability and Time Management:

  • Juggle multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Meet deadlines even when faced with unexpected changes or delays.

Collaboration with Library Staff and Key Stakeholders:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with clarity and insight.
  • Ability to both lead and work cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Work positively with library and County staff outside of the library system.
  • Develops constructive relationships with vendors to facilitate and resolve issues.

Technology Proficiency:

  • Working knowledge of Office 365 products, including Excel.
  • Familiarity with Polaris or other major integrated library systems.
  • Stay up to date with technological advancements.

Possible Transfers:

  • Employees may need to transfer temporarily or permanently to other library locations based on the organization’s needs.

Work Schedule:

  • This position requires 80 hours bi-weekly.
  • Hours and days will vary, including evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays.
