    I. JOB TITLE: Librarian JOB TYPE: 206 / 208
    POSITION REPORTS TO: Principal PAY GRADE: T-2
    FLSA STATUS: Exempt ASSIGNMENT PERIOD 192 Days
     
     
     
    II.           SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE
     
     
     
      Maintains the library and/or media center with a wide variety of library materials and media resources.
     
     
     

    III.     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

     
     
     

    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION – Bachelor’s degree.  Type A, B, C or Level 1, 2, or 3. Louisiana teaching certificate.  State certification as Librarian and/or Media Specialist. Additional criteria as established by the School Board.

     
     
     

    IV.     DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     
     
     
                            A.    LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
     
                          
    • Align library services to support the school’s reading and instructional programs and literacy activities.
    • Supervises students in use of library and materials.
    • Provides guidance for independent reading endeavors.
    • Prepares book talks and exhibits.
    • Presents group discussions on use of the library.
    • Schedules the use of the library with the principal’s approval.
    • Assists in the implementation of school improvement initiatives.
    • Provides supplemental materials to teachers for units of work.
                     
     

                            B.    INFORMATION ACCESS      

     

     

     

           

     
    • Selects and maintains a balanced collection of literacy materials, both fiction and nonfiction, print and non-print, for students and teachers.
    • Prepares and submits orders for State Department of Education.
    • Receives parish monies and orders supplies through established procedures.
    • Orders materials from resource agencies on a free or loan basis, at the request of teachers (excluding vendor previews).
    • Provides reserve materials at teacher’s request.
    • Assists faculty in selection of materials.
    • Utilizes current technological resources as they relate to instruction and library management.
     

                     

                           
                            C.    PROGRAM ADMINISTRATOR                       
     
     
    • Assists in the inventory of textbooks as directed by the principal.
    • Issues equipment to teachers and, at the librarian’s discretion and principal’s approval, to students.
    • Establishes procedures for inventory.
    • Coordinates the repair of audio-visual equipment.
    • Collects and processes fines for lost or damaged materials through established office procedures.
    • Processes materials for library use.
    • Maintains database.
    • Establishes circulation procedures.
    • Notifies students and teachers of new materials.
    • Prepares reports as needed for Southern Association, State Department of Education and federal agencies such as Title V funding sources.
    • Assists teachers in equipment operation and use.
     
     

                            D.    FACILITIES                       

     
    • Arranges library to encourage simultaneous use by groups and individuals.
    • Ensures that the library is maintained and cleaned.
       
                           
     
                            E.    PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES


                           
    • Opens the library and/or media center during the school day.
    • Participates in faculty meetings, extra-curricular activities, and school functions.
    • Participates in special programs and activities.
    • Implements emergency procedures established by the school.
    • Ensures that the confidentiality of student and employee records is maintained.
    • Attends professional meetings.
    • Maintains a professional demeanor and provides courteous and prompt service to all patrons including students, parents, co-workers, etc.  Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents.  Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
    • Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve instruction, service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management.  Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
    • Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service.  Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork to support and enhance the curriculum.
    • Teachers shall be expected to perform the following duties, along with the completion of corresponding documents, forms, and reports:


       
      1. Instructional Components

         
        • Fulfill duties traditionally expected of those in supervisory positions
        • Lesson Plans
        • Instruction
        • Collaborate with colleagues and departments
        • Grade papers
        • Take and record attendance
        • Enter/Average grades
        • Maintain positive and timely interaction with parents relative to the performance or conduct of students assigned to the teacher


           
      2. Supervision


         
        • Supervision of students when students are on or off campus at a school related/sponsored event
        • Supervision of students prior to school and/or drop-off, when assigned
        • Supervision of students in the classroom 
        • Supervision of students between classes, during recess/intermission, during lunch, assemblies
        • Supervision of students after school and/or pick-up, when assigned


           
      3. Non-instructional Components


         
        • Attend meetings generally associated with the instructions of students
        • Attend faculty, staff, and department meetings
        • Attend training sessions
        • Attend IEP meetings
        • Attend parent-teacher conferences
        • Attend back-to-school and open-house events
        • Attend graduation
        • Attend PGP, PIP, Evaluation, Observation, IAP, and student discipline meetings/hearings
        • Attend school board/committee meetings, upon request


           
      4. Extracurricular Activities


         
        • Attend/work concessions/gates of no more than 15 athletic events per school year as requested by the principal or designee
        • Attend all meetings and functions of those activities, clubs, or groups of which the employee is a sponsor

           
    • Performs other duties as required
