Reeves Library is looking for an innovative and enthusiastic team member to fill the Research and Engagement Librarian position for Westminster College. The person in this position is responsible for improving and maintaining the reference and instruction efforts of Reeves Library. This role, with the assistance of the Director, will also focus on the engagement of Library users through leading programming and workshops.


While focusing on research support and instruction, this role is expected to assist library patrons with the use of library resources, evaluation methods, and search techniques as well as provide instruction and other in class needs to help support student learning and information literacy to the full Westminster campus. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting first year students, international students, first generation students as well as transfer students. This position will also manage and train our student employees who assist with front desk duties during the day, as well as evenings and weekends. 

Requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Enhance and maintain the library's reference services and instructional programs. Use data to drive decision making in a student-centered way.
  • Lead the creation of engaging library experiences for users through workshops, programming initiatives, and targeted marketing efforts.
  • Provide research support and instruction, including one-on-one consultations, library resource navigation, and search strategy development.
  • Deliver information literacy instruction to various student populations, including first-year students, international students, first-generation students, and transfer students.
  • Oversee and train student library assistants, ensuring efficient front desk operations during all hours.  

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare visual displays throughout the library such as featured books, informational signage and bulletin boards 
  • Manage the student Library Student Advisory Board and coordinate with them to host programs, staff tables at campus events, and other projects as assigned. 
  • Assist in maintaining the library’s daily operations by providing secondary backup assistance to the other areas of the library as needed, such as Interlibrary Loan and MOBIUS requests. 
  • Work with other departments, organizations and clubs across campus to strengthen our relationship with the Westminster community. 
  • Maintain up-to-date manual describing functions and procedures needed to perform your job. 
  • Other duties and projects as assigned. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

This role assists in directly supervises student workers for the various service areas throughout the library. This can include the library front desk, study zone monitors, as well as any other student workers as requested by the Director. 


Job Requirements:

Education: MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution.  

Experience:  

  • Experience in providing reference services and library instruction.
  • Excellent research and information literacy skills.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging workshops and programs.
  • Enthusiasm for working with a diverse student population.
  • Experience supervising and training student employees (preferred). 
  • This position would be a great fit for an entry level or early career librarian. 

Skills: Requires a strong service orientation, and the ability to multi-task while remaining organized. This job also requires the applicant to be a self-starter and be able to work independently. Must also be comfortable working with and addressing large crowds, and working 1:1 with students, faculty, and staff. The ability to work as part of a team within the department and be willing to collaborate and communicate effectively will be crucial to this position's success. This role should also feel comfortable engaging with new technologies as well as innovative solutions.
