Job Description

Assists and instructs patrons at the reference desk; assists
Associate University Librarian for Research and Learning Services in planning; teaches
library workshops, and participates in collection development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participates in reference desk duty, in person, via chat, Zoom and telephone. Assists faculty, students, staff and other users on a one-on-one basis by answering specific information requests, offering research assistance, and guiding users in the effective use of a broad range of information resources offered by the library.
  • Under the general coordination of the Library Dean, serves as a bibliographer to designated academic departments and oversees the selection of materials in assigned subject areas. Assists in collection development and evaluation; monitors pertinent portions of the acquisitions budget; works to develop and maintain good relations with faculty members.
  • Under the general coordination of the Coordinator of Library Instruction, provides individual, classroom, and group instruction in library services and procedures, search strategies, and the use of information resources. May teach the 3 credit Information Literacy course.
  • Participates as a member of the reference team in: planning, policy formulation, identifying and recommending new information resources and services, training other library personnel, interacting with patrons and the university community in a professional manner, fostering a supportive reference climate, and acting in other ways to strengthen reference and library services.
  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned by supervisor and the Library Dean.
  • Participates in professional activities, including university and library committees and task forces, and attends professional meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MLS
    from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Demonstrated interest in developing knowledge of academic
    digital resources
  • Demonstrated ability to use MS Office suite, and Google
    Drive/Suite
  • Demonstrated interest in working in a team environment
    within a library committed to quality service

Preferred Qualifications

  • Public service experience
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of/familiarity with academic digital resources

Additional Information

will be given to applications received prior to December 2, 2024. Salary will be $50,000 annually,
commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include comprehensive
