JOB SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES As part of the Youth Services team, this position provides direct service to customers at public service desks with a focus on youth services. Duties to include participating in print and digital collection development, plans and implements timely and innovative programs for youth, caregivers and families, promotes and implements core values of the Family Place Libraries initiative, serves as liaison to staff at local organizations and schools serving birth through elementary school, develops community partnerships that support the library’s strategic goals, plans and participates in community engagement activities with schools and community-based organizations, creates a welcoming space for youth and families. Duties may also include special assignments and projects related to the work of the department. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position with a schedule including evenings and weekends. This position is part of Local 4831 and has a salary ranging from $53,629 to $57,065, depending on education and experience.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree from an ALA accredited institution and 2 years public library experience OR BS/BA and 3-5 years related experience in a public library setting
Ability to work as part of a team in a busy public library and interact with a diverse public in a welcoming and respectful way
Thorough understanding of infant and child development and advance knowledge of library services to children and their caregivers
Experience working with infants and children
A strong knowledge of children’s literature
Proficiency and experience with MS applications and demonstrated ability and interest in using computers, Internet, mobile and emerging technologies as it relates to resources for services for youth and caregivers
