General Overview of the Position

Under general administrative direction, perform complex and technical professional library work. This position is expected to work 29.5 hours weekly.

Examples of Essential Duties

  • Catalog and classify library materials.
  • Recommend materials for purchase.
  • Prepare booklists, bibliographies, and pathfinders.
  • Supervise inventories and weed library collection.
  • Assists in planning, producing, and promoting programs and services.
  • Perform reader's advisory and other patron assistance services.
  • Answer reference questions and provide bibliographic instruction.
  • Perform in-depth reference research.
  • Have good working knowledge of OverDrive and similar services to assist patrons with digital content on a variety of computers and mobile devices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a Master of Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited library school.Ā  Candidate must have experience in professional library work along with the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Ā 

  • Understanding of basic library principles, procedures, technology, goals and philosophy of service.
  • Library coursework in the selection, organization of materials and reference and information services.
  • Ability to use knowledge and training to serve the needs of the library productively.
  • Ability to meet, communicate and deal with people effectively.
  • Ability to plan and implement library services.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions, verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Must have broad experience or knowledge of social media and content creation.
  • Good oral, written and computer skills; must be able to assist patrons with computer- related questions.
  • Ability to understand library policies and procedures and apply them to library operations.
  • Must have familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
  • Willingness to maintain skills in the above mentioned areas through active participation in appropriate library skills learning experiences.
