Pay Range: $20.00 to $23.00 per hour based on experience

Job Status/Work Year: Non-exempt; part-time, ongoing for each 10-month academic year (SY 2025/26 is August 26, 2025 to June 4, 2026)

Start Date: Position to start August 19-22, 2025 based on availability 

Work Hours: Approximately 12-18 hours of evening work per week. The following shifts will be split between two part-time library assistants: Monday-Thursday 3:45pm – 9:45pm; Friday 3:45pm – 6:15pm; and Sunday 7:15pm – 9:45pm.


Job Summary: The Upper School Library Assistant will provide a safe, nurturing, and enriched library environment for students grades 7-12 during library evening and weekend hours between 4:00pm and 9:30pm (Monday-Thursday), 4:00pm and 6:00pm (Friday), and 7:30pm and 9:30pm (Sunday). The staff member will supervise students during their time in the library, assisting them as needed with library-related or study tasks. The staff member may also assist with the planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Collaborates and communicates with the Director of Library Services and the Director of Residential Life to ensure that the library is safe, nurturing, and responsive to student needs.

  • Actively monitors students for safety and appropriate behavior.

  • Fosters healthy rapport with and between the students.

  • Keeps records of library user numbers and activities in the library.

  • Monitors study time by circulating throughout the study area.

  • Shelve, locate, check-in and check-out library materials, as well as other circulation tasks.

  • Plans and implements appropriate activities.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualification Requirements:


  • Related experience and/or training preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with students as well as adults.

  • Ability to handle interruptions and multiple demands.

  • Ability to be certified in first aid/CPR or other emergency procedures.


Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to sit for extended periods.

  • Ability to stand and/or walk for sustained periods of time.

  • Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds.

  • Full range of head and neck movement.

  • Ability to see and hear with or without correction.

  • Due to work in close proximity to children, must pass fingerprinting and background clearance checks.

  • TB clearance required.
