Part-Time Librarian

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
 
This position performs various public librarian functions while providing excellent service to patrons and related community partners.   Actively cultivates a continued interest in and awareness of digital literacy, research, literacy, and related publishing trends via available tools. Provides effective instruction for the use of library resources for the public and library staff. Ensures that the public follows policy and uses the facility appropriately. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
 

• Provide excellent service to a wide variety of patrons in the community
• Deliver quality reference interactions in person, via phone, text and email 
• Instruction and assistance in the use of technology and digital literacy. 
• May assist with or lead Library programs as assigned   
• May assist with collection responsibilities, including reading reviews and selecting material for the collections
• May assist in marketing using the website, social media, and other tools
• Assist with inventory
• Monitors facilities and enforces policy. 
• Be knowledgeable about all Library events, programs and services 
• Stay informed about trends and developments in the field of public librarianship
• Strive to bolster readers’ advisory skills by keeping current with authors, books, genres, and reading trends among patron base
• Perform other related librarian duties as request

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Ability to perform in a courteous and professional manner at all times
• Possess a genuine interest in representing the Library in a positive, thoughtful and empathetic manner when interacting with the public.
• Ability to express oneself succinctly and professionally, both orally and in writing
• Proficiency in a wide variety of software and databases including Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with social media

• Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited college or university is preferred. Related backgrounds with library experience will be considered. 
• SirsiDynix Symphony experience is preferred

• Hours fluctuate based on operational and seasonal needs; must have availability to work evenings and weekends as needed

• $21.00per hour,  -$29.75 per hour

• Non-Bargaining Unit, Part-Time position; 19.5 hours or less
