Description

The Outreach and Instructional Librarian is a 12-month position at the DeSoto Campus Library and will report directly to the Head Librarian there. This person will be responsible for one-on-one, group, and classroom instruction, marketing and outreach for the library, and other projects as assigned. Work will be done both at the DeSoto Center and in collaboration with librarians at the Senatobia and Lafayette campus libraries.

 HOURS: 8:00 a.m-3:30 p.m. (Monday-Friday)

 QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • ALA accredited Master's Degree in Library Science required; 
  • Experience in academic libraries required with a preference for community college level experience; 
  • Demonstrated competence in current learning resources technology; 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited:

  1. Plan, prepare, and present outreach programs for the library. 
  2. Promote interest in the library and reading through book discussions, emails, and newsletters.
  3. Create displays and marketing materials to enhance the library experience and to promote use of library resources. 
  4. Utilize the library’s various social media outlets. 
  5. Conduct basic library tours or orientations and one-on-one research consultation with students & faculty. 
  6. Provide general reference to library users (via phone, text-message, in person) including questions related to the collection, equipment, policies and procedures. 
  7. Collaborate with faculty to develop and teach instructional sessions for specific disciplines. 
  8. Assist with teaching workshops in library Makerspace. 
  9. Participate in collection management activities such as selecting new materials, weeding, and database review. 
  10. Assist with annual inventory, and reports for the library. 
  11. Participate in library staff and faculty development meetings. 
  12. Keep abreast of new developments in the profession.  
  13. Attend professional conferences and seminars. 
  14. Maintain good working relationships with faculty, staff, students and administration. 
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Librarian or the Administration. 
  16. Conform to school policy as set down in the Policies and Procedures Manual.
  17. Perform all duties as assigned by the District Director of Library Resources and Campus Dean.
