General Notes

Dell Medical School, Department of Medical Education

Purpose

Work closely with Dell Medical School librarians to complete various assigned tasks having to do with library collections, services, and library guides/website.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing and labeling print textbook collection. Creating and updating records for historical book collection

  • Checking and updating sections of the Dell Medical School Library website

  • Setting up scholarly literature alerts for faculty, medical student and resident publications; collating this data and organizing it for reports.

  • Running literature searches when there is an overflow of requests; finding full text articles as needed, identifying newly published books on medical topics for future collection development.

  • Miscellaneous projects as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft applications including Word and Excel

  • Experience, or desire to learn how to use LibGuides, the platform used by librarians to organize and provide resource information to their clientele

  • Experience with using library databases to run searches for scholarly literature – if not familiar with PubMed, training will be provided

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Student who is currently enrolled in a library or information science degree program, or student who is interested in librarianship as a future career.

Salary Range

  • $15.00

Working Conditions

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

  • Mixture of on-site and remote work depending on task. Location for on-site work is Dell Medical School, Health Learning Building, 1501 Red River Street, Austin TX 78701, 3rd floor.

  • Current end date for this position is Dec 31, 2025, with opportunity to continue until May 9, 2026.
