Position Title: Media Specialist (Library Assistant) - Classified

Hourly Rate: $19.00 - $19.75/hour (depending on experience)
Pay Grade: 41
Schedule: 40 hours/week; Monday - Friday;10 month position; Benefits Offered; Arizona State Retirement System eligible.
Desired Start Date: July 28, 2025, may start prior for training
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
Join high-functioning, collaborative school team to coordinate and organize use of the school library by students and staff, and assist students in the development of library skills. Ideal candidate will possess experience working in a library setting. Some experience working with elementary grade students preferred. Proficiency with computers and digital database programs preferred. Familiarity with childrens' literature a plus. Must be able to supervise students, carry out clerical duties, and manage library systems and procedures independently.
TYPICAL TASKS:
These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this class. - Instruct students and student aides in library procedures and research under the direction of the librarian, including computerized indexes, microfiche retrieval, card catalog and reference use.
- Train and monitor activities of student aides in library procedures, which may include planning and assigning of duties; may also provide input into evaluation and grades for 9-week period.
- Demonstrate use and operation of various audio-visual equipment; reserve equipment for teachers; send for repair.
- Implement computerized management tools to accomplish library tasks such as checking library materials in and out, entering and withdrawing students, maintaining inventory of library materials and sending overdue notices. May also include revising and updating current computer program to accomplish tasks in a particular library situation.
- Organize and maintain data using multiple data bases and filing systems on computer.
- Monitor students using the library and assist students in maintaining appropriate behavior consistent with building policies and procedures.
- Advise students and staff in the selection of appropriate media and assist in location of materials appropriate for research and use.
- Perform clerical duties associated with library materials such as monitoring new material requests; compiling information needed for ordering; and performing simple accounting duties associated with ordering.
- Collect, compute and compile data for monies received for lost books, copies and book fairs.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to maintaining the services of the library in the absence of the certified librarian.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Specific training or job experience required before appointment - High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
- Must meet NCLB requirements. NCLB = 60 post-secondary hours of college coursework OR Minimum of an AA degree (or higher) OR Meet the minimum score required on an Arizona Department of Education approved test. - One year secretarial coursework including computer keyboarding required.
- Experience or coursework in the area of information retrieval systems preferred.
- Coursework in Library Science desirable.
- Experience working with elementary age students preferred.
