POSITION TITLE:              Lower School Library Assistant (Non-Instructional)

DEPARTMENT:                   Instructional Support

SUPERVISOR:                     Lower School Librarian

STATUS:                                Part-Time (20 hours/week)

FLSA:                                     Non-Exempt (Hourly)

HOURS OF WORK:             4 hours/day

CLASSIFICATION:             Non-Essential

 

 

POSITION SUMMARYThe Lower School Library Assistant supports the daily administrative operations of the William Passano Library, helps students and faculty use the library’s print and digital resources, and assists with the implementation of programmatic events.

 

STUDENT AND FACULTY SUPPORT


●    Assist students and teachers with readers’ advisory and reference needs, including the organization and preparation of materials for specific grade-level research-based projects
●    Support librarians during instruction and check out
●    Process student and teacher holds
●    Substitute for library classes on an occasional basis

 

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES


●    Check-in items – examine materials for damage and/or wear; repair materials
●    Shelve materials – shift collection as needed
●    Process new items for use in collection
●    Collaborate with the Senior Library Assistant on overdue notices and lost books 
●    Collaborate with library staff across divisions
●    Withdraw weeded items from the online catalog - shift collection as needed
●    Assist with inventory
●    Perform other duties as assigned

 

 PROGRAMMATIC SUPPORT


●    Assist the Lower School library team with the annual Book Fair
●    Assist the Senior Library Assistant with the annual Book Swap
●    Curate monthly reading recommendations for the library’s digital platforms
●    Design thematic visual displays 
●    Support the implementation of reading programs

 

QUALIFICATIONS 


●    Bachelor’s degree
●    Comfort using technology (web applications, documents, spreadsheets, email, etc.)
●    Excellent writing and organizational skills
●    Previous library experience preferred
●    Previous experience working with elementary-age students preferred
●    Strong interpersonal communication skills appropriate for various age groups
●    Ability to handle multiple projects at once
●    Ability to work well with a team
