Class Description

The Library Technician II, Public Services is responsible for supporting student access to library facilities and resources, maintaining library materials and facilities, and supporting library programs and operations. This role requires a strong knowledge of fundamental library procedures, as well as proficiency with standard office and library systems.

Minimum Requirements

High School diploma/GED and three years relevant experience or an Associate’s degree and one year of relevant experience required.


Preferred: Demonstrated customer service experience. Knowledge of and familiarity with library software. Associate’s Degree in Library and Information Technology. 


Preferred: Library Paraprofessional and Support Staff Certification or Microsoft Fundamentals/Office Specialist certificate. If the candidate does not have these preferred requirements, one will be required within two years of hire.

Class Specific Essential Duties


  1. Provide excellent customer service and high-quality circulation and access services, to all students, college, and community visitors to the library in public service.
  2. Provide introductory guidance and troubleshooting to students using college- wide educational platforms including Brightspace, Microsoft Office products, student email, and Simon.
  3. Assist library customers with library computers, copy machines, printers, and other technology available for use at the library.
  4. Maintain organized records and files for area of responsibility, contribute to documentation of practices, record statistics in library platforms, and submit reports in a timely manner.
  5. Assist in maintaining a clean, equipped, functional, and welcoming library environment that serves a variety of collaboration, productivity, and quiet study needs of library customers.
  6. Efficiently practice sustained functions related to circulation of library materials using library service platform software.
  7. Shelve, pull, shelf-read, shift collections, complete inventories, and participate in other collection maintenance and collection movement projects as directed.
  8. Work collaboratively to facilitate use of collections and library spaces in collection projects and library programming, outreach, and displays.

Position Specific Essential Duties

  1. Monitor overdue materials for assigned campus library, library accounts and account holds and other duties related to circulation.
  2. Create reports for all aspects of material use and circulation.
  3. Assist customers with interlibrary loan requests and work with other campus locations to process loan materials.
  4. Organize and maintain the reserve collection in the catalog and within the facility for the campus library.
  5. Lead communication with library users regarding billling, holds, overdue materials, etc. for the campus library.
  6. Open and close the library area as required.
