We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Library Technician to support daily library operations within its recently renovated two-story research library. This position is part of the Library Research Team and plays an essential role in supporting library services, information management, circulation activities, catalog maintenance, and access to research resources.
The Library Technician will serve as a key point of contact at the library's information desk, assisting researchers and staff with library services while ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, and organization of library materials and systems. This position is contingent upon contract award.
Key Responsibilities
- Upload documents and apply metadata to internal research databases.
- Support the maintenance and quality assurance of library catalog records for books, journals, and other resources.
- Staff the library information desk and provide excellent customer service to library patrons.
- Assist users with access to research databases, subscription resources, and library technology.
- Coordinate requests for off-site library materials and facilitate timely delivery of resources.
- Support circulation functions, including lending, returns, and self-checkout assistance.
- Assist with serials management and subscription access administration.
- Perform records management activities and maintain accurate documentation.
- Troubleshoot basic user access issues and escalate complex questions to federal library staff as appropriate.
- Assist with shelving, organizing, and maintaining physical library collections according to Library of Congress classification standards.
- Support workflow improvements, software migrations, and other library operational initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
- Experience providing customer service in a library, research, records management, academic, or information services environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Edge.
- Experience working with library systems, catalogs, databases, or subscription management platforms.
- Knowledge of records management principles and administrative support practices.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Skills & Competencies
- Demonstrated proficiency with Library of Congress call numbers and shelving procedures.
- Experience maintaining metadata, catalog records, or digital information repositories.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with library staff.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, move, and shelve library materials.
- Ability to push a book cart throughout the library.
- Ability to climb steps or short ladders to access library materials.
- Ability to work onsite throughout the workday.
Work Environment
This position is fully onsite within the Federal Reserve Board's Research Library. The primary workstation will be located at the library's information desk, supporting access to research workstations, self-checkout services, and the print collection. The role requires regular interaction with library users and staff while maintaining a professional, service-oriented environment.

Compensation Range: The salary range provided is determined by market value, internal equity, and the candidate's experience and qualifications. Offers will be extended within this range, though not all candidates will receive an offer at the upper limit.
