    WORK DAYS: 196 days (Student days + 5 days) - 196 Day Work Year Calendar

     

    Monday - Friday, 6 hours/day, 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

     

    Position will begin August 11, 2025.

     

     

     

    SALARY: Range 16 - 19, salary placement from $18.71 - $28.11 hourly

     

    Salary prorated based on start date and prior experience.

    TITLE:                          Library Technician  

     

    SALARY RANGE:       16   None or a limited number of units; completion of 15 semester units of a varied academic program.  Library Technology courses encouraged; completion of 30 semester units of a varied academic program, 15 of which must be                                              related to library services.

     

                                         18   An AA Degree

     

                                         19   An AA Degree (60 semester units) including the Library Technology certificate.

     

    JOB SUMMARY

     

    Under general supervision operate and promote the library program in a school; assist students and staff in using and learning to use resources available in the library/media center.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

     

    Required:

     
    1. High school graduation or its equivalent.

    2. Some office or library clerical experience.

    3. An ability to speak and write effectively; research and retrieve information using computer technology; work independently; work calmly and accurately under pressure and with frequent interruptions; establish and maintain cooperative relationships.

     

    Desirable:

     
    1. Certificate of Proficiency in Library Technology or courses in library technology from a community college.

    2. Some experience in working with groups of children/young people.

    3. Knowledge of library media systems and practices including the care and operation of instructional media and equipment; children's/young people's literature and the basic curriculum; use of technology in searching and using information which may include computers, use of the internet, various computer hardware/software, video and telecommunication applications.

    4. Keyboarding ability.

    5. Ability to communicate verbally in Spanish.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

     

    (Depending on location, employee may perform some or all of the following functions and the functions may assume a different priority.  Some positions may require technical expertise relating to specific job site functions).

     
    1. Assist and instruct students and staff in learning to be effective users of the library and information therein, which may include but not be limited to, guidance in selecting reading materials and in locating information using electronic sources.

    2. Work with staff to plan programs that encourage student reading and library use.

    3. Gather materials for teachers or classes in various curricular areas.

    4. Read aloud to or tell stories to classes daily.

    5. Facilitate development of the collection by compiling orders for new materials and withdrawing outdated items.

    6. Maintain an attractive, cheerful learning environment that includes book displays and bulletin boards.

    7. Promote use of the library through public relations which may include, but not be limited to, the preparation of posters, flyers, articles for school newsletters, and conducting or assisting with book fairs and other fundraisers.

    8. Maintain a system for circulating and retrieving materials.Receive materials and assist with the processing and distribution of books, student technological devices (e.g. Chromebooks) and other relevant media.

           9.Notify students of overdue materials, collect fines and payments for lost or damaged materials, and maintain records of financial transactions.

          10. Prepare annual inventory and monthly circulation reports.

     

          11. Direct and coordinate student assistants and volunteers.

     

          12. Perform other duties as required.

    6. Stand, walk, stoop, twist, bend over, grasp, reach in all directions, push, pull, and move, lift and/or carry 0 to 25 pounds to waist height and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

    7. Employ physical dexterity in limbs and digits to operate computer keyboards and other equipment.

    8. Move throughout the building and school grounds as necessary.

     

    MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:  Employee in this position must have the ability to:

     
    1. Concentrate on a single task for up to two (2) hours at a time.

    2. Learn quickly and adapt to a variety of technology, machinery, instructions, and task methods.

    3. Meet deadlines in terms of work assignment schedules.

    4. Speak and write in a clear, concise manner.

     

    SOCIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Employee in this position must have the ability to:

     

          1.   Interact daily in person with other members of the school staff and possess comfortable interpersonal skills and cooperative attitudes.

     

          2.   Have consistent attendance.  Because of the urgent nature of duties and because the work product of the position is interdependent with that of other staff, consistent attendance is required.

     

          3.   Convey an understanding, patient attitude toward other students, parents, staff and members of the community.

     

          4.   Maintain the privacy of confidential information including student grades, progress, etc.

    SUPERVISION:  Under the general supervision of the building principal with direction from the District’s Curriculum and Instruction department.

     

    Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter:  This position is designated as a Mandated Reporter.  The position shall report in accordance with California state regulations who observe, have actual knowledge, or reasonably suspect child or elder/dependent abuse or neglect to appropriate agencies.

     

    CANDIDATE SELECTION:  The Candidate selected for this position will be required to present prior to the first date of employment: 1) A social security card; 2) proof of tuberculin test; 3) pass State and Federal fingerprint clearances; and 4) complete all pre-employment training including but not limited to Child Abuse Reporting and Sexual Harassment/Abusive Conduct.
