Description of Work

Position Definition:
Reporting to the department head, assists the department by re-shelving materials and keeping shelves in good order, making it easy for staff and patrons to find and use materials.

Example of Duties:

  • Shelve and retrieve materials
  • Simple filing and photocopying
  • Shelf checking from printed lists
  • Checking bibliographic holdings in OPAC
  • Putting together new borrower welcome packets
  • Basic assistance with programs
  • Work an average of 10-12-hours per week

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Ability to use computers
  • Ability to stand and walk around the library to re-shelve books for long periods of time/
  • Ability to work weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Student in good standing in high school, or a high school diploma or GED. The preferred minimum age is 16. The minimum hiring ages is 14. 

Special Licenses/Certifications AND/OR Supplemental Information

Up to 19.5 hrs/wk.
