Under general supervision, assists in maintaining the order and organization of materials within the library; performs related duties as required.

Essential Job Functions

Sorts and shelves library materials within collections by Dewey and alphabetical order. Maintains sequential shelf order to insure proper arrangement of shelved materials. Assists in welcoming the public and assists patrons in the location of library materials. Refers information inquiries to appropriate staff. Assists in maintaining library displays and signage. 

Performs other duties as assigned. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential function of this position, as is the ability to create and maintain professional, harmonious working relationships with others.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.

Accuracy and proficiency in filing both numerically and alphabetically. Ability to understand and follow established procedures and routines. Basic Internet skills required. 

Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to establish effective working relationships with library patrons and co-workers. Ability to contribute to a cooperative team environment.

Other Requirements

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Responsible for regular attendance and reporting to work on time.

Works primarily in a climate-controlled office environment. Physical demands include ability to push a loaded book cart weighing up to 50 pounds and ability to bend, stoop, lift and reach. Work performed may occasionally cause fatigue of eyes and fingers. Exposure to dust.
