Summary Objective

Person County Government is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Library Page. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with the public, values lifelong learning, and thrives in a supportive community-focused environment. The purpose of this position is to perform basic library work practices, including checking library materials in and out, collecting overdue fines, accepting inter-library loan and reserve requests, and general assistance services to library patrons. Under close to general supervision, you'll follow established procedures and assist with a variety of essential library functions.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.


The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to both the candidate's educational background and relevant work experience.


This is a non-exempt position.  Part-time employees cannot work more than 1000 hours per calendar year. This position will work 20 hours per week with an evening shift and alternating weekends.

Essential Functions

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Assists patrons with questions, information requests, and with requests for materials.
  • Collects fines and provides receipts.
  • Answers questions and advises patrons in the use and location of library materials.
  • Circulates materials using a computer and specialized library software.
  • Issues library cards and processes patron holds and requests.
  • Assists the public in using computers, equipment, library catalog, and electronic resources.
  • Assists with collection maintenance tasks such as sorting, shelving, and withdrawing materials according to Library procedures.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.

Special Certifications and Licenses

  • None.

Person County conducts pre-employment screening on candidates.  Job offers are conditional pending the following:

  • A pre-employment drug screen for all candidates. Positions designated by Person County as Safety Sensitive are also subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • A background check for all candidates.  Some positions also require a credit check.
  • Additional screening and testing required for some positions.
  • Within 3 days of the start of your employment with the County, you must be able to provide proof of your eligibility to work in the US.
