Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to prepare materials for patron use, assist patrons and complete special projects.
This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Answers phone calls, provides information, takes messages, and routes calls.
  • Sorts and distributes mail and library materials.
  • Assists library patrons with check-out and return of materials.
  • Keeps rooms orderly and neat.
  • Performs related work.
  • Prepares, reads and straightens shelves and files library materials according to established shelving systems and procedures.
  • Loads, sorts and delivers materials.
  • Assists patrons with locating library materials and refers patrons to appropriate staff when needed.
  • Answers basic questions and assists with library technology such as copiers, fax machines, and public computers.
  • Uses a computer and other technology to process materials (check-in, checkout, routing, etc.) and to perform other duties including emails, timesheets, and leave requests.
  • Empties book drops.
  • Assists with library programs and events.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Tenth grade education.

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Proof of age required for persons under 18 years of age.
  • Must work a varied schedule.
  • Must provide proof of social security number.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
