Description


JOB PURPOSE  

The Library Page (full-time) is responsible for the retrieval, shelving, and maintenance of library materials as needed by library patrons and staff. This individual will also assist in shifting, grooming, barcoding, and other library projects as needed to maintain the general collection. 


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  1. Fulfilling catalog requests by retrieving items from specified location and delivering them to the designated department. 
  2. Sorting and alphabetizing serial journals and returning them to their designated shelf location. 
  3. Reviewing serial journal titles for holdings accuracy and preservation. 
  4. Securing barcodes on newly cataloged serial journal titles.  
  5. Maintaining organization of stacks shelving and assisting in shifting and collection maintenance as needed. 
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • High School diploma or degree equivalent. 
  • Basic PC skills. 
  • Demonstrated interest in learning library procedures, equipment skills and reference techniques. 
  • Dependable, highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision. 
  • Flexibility and the capacity to embrace change in a dynamic and evolving organization.

SCHEDULE

This is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in a normal library environment. 
  • Lifting, handling, gripping, carrying, manipulating, and examining books and bound volumes ranging in weight from 3 to 40 pounds. 
  • Repetitive overhead reaching, bending, and stooping to return or remove volumes from shelves. 
  • Pushing and maneuvering book trucks.  
  • Use of a step stool and library ladder.  
  • Movement between floors and departments within the library. 
  • Standing or sitting for extended periods. 

 

SALARY

This position is classified as non-exempt. The compensation structure is based on a semi-monthly salary, with a starting rate of $1,300 paid twice per month (this translates to an hourly equivalent of $15 per hour). This hourly equivalent is provided for informational purposes and for the calculation of overtime pay, should it be applicable.
