    JOB TITLE: Elementary Library Manager

     

    REPORTS TO: Building Principal

    SUMMARY

     

    The elementary library manager controls operations of the library area by performing the following duties.

     

    EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    Library manager is to:

     
    • Handle circulation desk operations, including prioritizing duties and monitoring cash.

    • Provide detailed information regarding services, policies, and procedures to students and staff.

    • Assist staff and students in use of public access catalog and electronic equipment.

    • Update computer records.

    • Provide maintenance of collection, including shelving, shifting, inventory, and tracing lost materials.

    • Select relevant library materials in library and audio visual aids.

    • Maintain the necessary reference materials and bibliographies within budget allocations, and assist students in locating and utilizing materials.

    • Provide proper instructional materials in library use to the faculty for use in the classroom.

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 

    • Write routine reports and correspondence.

    • Speak effectively before groups of employees or students.

     

    Mathematical Abilities

     

    Library manager must have the abilities to:

     
    • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentage, area, circumference, and volume. 

    • Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

     

    Reasoning Abilities

     

    Library manager must have the abilities to:

     
    • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 

    • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

     

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

     

    Required

     

    A one year certificate from college or technical school, or three to six months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

     

    Desired

     
    • Extensive knowledge of library service 

    • Ability to relate to primary, elementary and junior high students.
