Library staff engage the public through a vast array of library services and resources.

We're looking for a dynamic leader to guide library services with insight, innovation, and impact. As a Library Manager, you'll play a key role in leading your team, shaping programs, evaluating data and trends, and making decisions that influence both daily operations and broader strategic goals. The Library Manager will contribute to budgeting, strategic planning, and process improvements that support the library's mission and the community we serve.

This is a full-time, exempt, on-site position. Interviews will take place the week of August 4th, 2025 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Pay & Benefits

  • Salary: $74,214.40 to $89,065.60 ($35.68 to $42.82 per hour).

  • 2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 34: $74,214.40 to $103,896.00 ($35.68 to $49.95 per hour).

Work Location

  • This position will work at Northtown Library, located at 711 County Hwy 10 NE, Blaine, MN 55434.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Library Manager.

  • Create a welcoming environment for all by providing excellent customer service.

  • Manage the daily operations of an Anoka County Library branch.

  • Lead library staff in the daily functioning, planning, and administration of the library services program.

  • Provide guidance and administrative direction over library employees, including hiring, evaluating, and training employees.

  • Maintain and promote library collection, provide information and professional reference services and technology assistance.

  • Lead staff in planning and providing quality programs for learners of all ages, establishing and nurturing partnerships and collaborating with area schools, community organizations and government entities.

  • Participate in proposing, planning and implementing system-wide policies, procedures, services, initiatives and solutions.

  • Ensure library building and grounds upkeep and improvements.

  • Handle cash including processing payments and reconciling the cash drawer.

  • Maintain current knowledge of county and library policies and procedures. Interpret and communicate policies to patrons and employees, as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of job-related experience.

  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Degree in Library Science or related field.

  • Masters in Library and Information Studies from an ALA accredited institution.

  • Previous leadership experience.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

  • Standard office environment, warehouse, or public library depending on assignment.

  • Frequent distraction and multitasking. 

  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness. 

  • Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds. 

  • Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing to assist patrons. 

  • Physical activity may include repeated bending, stooping, reaching, frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work, and occasionally pushing carts weighing over 300 lbs. 

  • Occasional lifting of 20-50 lbs. while moving materials. 

  • Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment. 

  • Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed. 

  • Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle. 

  • Work activities may require contact with uncooperative, angry, and sometimes hostile clients. 

  • May be required to use kick stools to reach items from high shelves.
